Island are ideal systems to investigate the effects of demographic change on the social dynamics of threatened species. I currently study the social dynamics of the Floreana mockingbird (Mimus trifasciatus) on two small islets in the Galapagos Islands: Champion and Gardner-by-Floreana. My study aims to contribute to the long-term conservation of this species by identifying social triggers of juvenile dispersal and the formation of new breeding groups. I will then incorporate this information into spatially explicit models of habitat use to better understand key restoring areas where these mockingbirds can be reintroduced.
